On Dec. 11, 1816, President James Madison signed the congressional resolution officially admitting Indiana to the Union as the 19th state. The state name is generally thought of to mean “land of the Indians” and was admitted on December 22, 1816, as the 19th state of the union. The capital city has been in Indianapolis since the early year 1825.
Geographically the state of Indiana borders Lake Michigan and the state of Michigan to the north, Ohio borders to the east, Kentucky to the south, and Illinois to the west. There are five different bodies of water in the state of Indiana, creating beautiful scenery and a lovely place to visit. Other than Hawaii Indiana is the smallest state west of the Appalachian Mountains.
